A Little "Squirt" That Makes Feeding Time Easier
New item
on the market advances the world of spoon feeding babies. Feed
your hungry baby in half the time, using half the effort
really!

An
ingenious gadget that makes
feeding infants quick and easy?
What took so long?

The Boon Company
has done it again with their Squirt Baby Food Dispensing Spoon,
which is happily BpA-free, Phthalate-free, and PVC-free.
This company continues to impress me not only for their
commitment to taking the chemical contaminant worries out of plastic
multi-use baby feeding items but for creating a spoon feeding
system that truly requires the use of only one hand. And
how important is THAT to a busy mom?
Honestly, I bought this item on a whim at the grocery store. The
idea seemed unique and helpful, and the spoon had a certain eye
appeal, but rarely does a product live up to its promises. I had
no expectations for its success.
So I was
pleasantly surprised when I found that it was very easy to use
the first time, and clean up was a breeze. I, the new product
pessimist, was actually impressed. It actually worked as advertised.
The unique design eliminates the need to repeatedly dip the spoon
into the food container to refill the spoon with food. You simply
fill the bulb handle with the desired food, reattach the spoon,
and squeeze or "squirt" the desired amount of food through
a little hole on the neck to fill the spoon reservoir.
You do not get food on the underside of the spoon. As many moms
know all too well, the excess food usually ends up dripping off.
Then it takes three or four swipes to clean it off on the bowl
before the spoon eventually makes its way to your baby's mouth!
Clean up for the food-dispensing spoon is simplicity itself, requiring
the same amount of energy it would take to clean a regular spoon
and bowl. It also comes with a little cap, so you can fill the
spoon with food, pop on the cap, and throw it into your diaper
bag. (I'm not sure if I truly trust that the cap won't come off,
so I put it in a plastic baggie, just to be sure.)
Note to the
Boon Company: you could try providing a protective cap to cover
the whole spoon, as it does go into the child's mouth and that
would collect any spills, but for now my baggie does the job.
Full disclosure: I am not a stock holder in this company. However,
whenever I take this little gadget out in public, people curiously
stare and I inevitably have to answer a few questions.
I can now spoon feed my very hungry 8-month-old anywhere with
half the mess and half the effort. Anything that makes being the
parent of small children easier I will give proper credit to.
The only regret I have for the "Squirt" is that I did
not think of it first!
