The crowds got ready for some serious fun as the 40th annual Comic-Con International geared up once again in San Diego in 2009.

The largest such convention in the country, Comic-Con attracts over 100,000 participants annually who look forward to meeting the stars of current blockbuster movies, favorite creators of anime, comic book arists and graphic novelists, and fellow-fans of all things fantasy and sci-fi.

This year, the cast of "Twilight New Moon" and "Iron Man 2" made favored appearances, joined by actor Johnny Depp hawking his latest starring role in the upcoming "Alice in Wonderland" directed by Tim Burton.

More to the point, the show culminates in special accolades for top comics, manga and anime industry stars in such categories as Best Artist, Best Writer, and Best Series.
