Paradise
Born
in New York City, A.P. Gentile attended the New York School
of Visual Arts where he studied Fine Arts, Graphic Design
and Three Dimensional Design. After that he went on to spend
2 years in Japan studying Martial arts and Sumie (Japanese
brush drawing).
During
a brief visit to Bali, and meeting many talented Balinese
craftsmen, he saw an opportunity to create art by merging
his contemporary training with that of the traditional Balinese
craft of stone carving.
Gentile's
most recent commission includes 16 stone carved murals - totaling
over 1000 square feet - for the Universal Royal Pacific Hotel
in Orlando, Florida. "Once the stone is quarried we use
only hand tools and only traditional methods - no electric
tools of any kind are used," boasts the modern craftsman.
