Pasta:
The Other White Meat?
Let's face
it. Not everyone is a fan of turkey. If your family is anything
like mine, you've probably heard some loud complaints when it
comes to the standard Thanksgiving dinner.
What can you
do to please everyone? Easy.
Diversify!
You
can serve turkey
to the conservatives in the group and still prepare other main
course recipes without going crazy. The secret is in the packaging.
The days when
you had to buy a whole turkey are gone. You can choose only turkey
parts like the breast or drumsticks. They're easier to
cook, take much less preparation and leave enough leftovers for
at least a few sandwiches.
With only
the turkey lovers eating the bird, you can choose whatever you
would like for your second course. A nice Southern
baked holiday ham might be perfect for your family.
If personal
or religious beliefs dictate no pork, there's always fish (may
we suggest that good ol' American dish, New
England clam chowder?) and fowl, (roast
chicken, of course) or pasta dishes to fill the gap.
In fact, there
are so many variations on the pasta
theme today, it might very well qualify as the "other white
meat".
Pasta,
fish, ham, or chicken just doesn't fit the bill?
Easier still.
