Australian
Wines Top UK Wine Charts
Its
official. 6 of the Top 10 wine brands sold in the UK are Australian,
with traditional French and Italian brands not even making it
onto the Top 10 list, according to the latest wine trends.
In the UK,
Australian wines lead the market with 24% value share of the
market, and sales of more than $2billion a year! Australian
wines also dominate in terms of volume, accounting for almost
21% of total volume sales (up 5% on last year), followed by
French wines with 18.5% share (down 5% on the previous year).
Interestingly,
the continuing growth in Australian wine consumption in the
UK could soon see the Brits buying more Australian wine than
we do! Currently, the Australian off-premise wine market is
worth $2.7billion, but the UK is catching up fast. Predictions
are that Australian wine sales will soon be more in the UK than
they are here, commented Michael Walton, Associate Director,
Retail Measurement Services, ACNielsen, Australia.
Australian
wines have been aggressively marketed in the UK over the past
few decades and with wine consumption almost doubling in the
UK over the same period, our share of this growth market has
increased significantly. By demystifying the enjoyment and consumption
of wine and making wine more accessible than their European
counterparts, Australian wines are increasingly popular among
more recent wine consumers in the UK, he added.
