(NC)—Today's wine connoisseurs are always on the lookout for new tastes, unique grapes and hidden wine treasures. This harvest season, a select group of unique wines are available exclusively to personal winemakers.
Across Canada, winemakers always anticipate the annual release of Cru Selects Restricted Quantities (RQ) wine kits. Available only by special order, and only for a limited time, these exclusive wines from some of the world's top winemaking regions will surprise and delight every palate.
If you're a seasoned winemaker, adding one of these wines to your collection is a must this harvest season. Never made your own wine before? What better way to start than with one of these top quality varietals! This year's featured wines include:
Malbec (Chile): Malbec is a black, mellow grape variety originally
grown in France and long known as one of the six grapes used in the blending of red Bordeaux
wine. In 1956, frost killed 75 per cent of the Bordeaux crop, and since then Malbec has been
largely produced in South America. This wine pairs well with venison, grilled tenderloin and
medium-strong cheese.
Unoaked Chardonnay (New Zealand): Winemakers are increasingly
exploring the world of unoaked Chardonnary, which produces a truer expression of fruit, a crisper
wine that tastes of the grape and a wine which pairs easily with a wide range of foods. This
offering, from the Marlborough region of New Zealand, features an array of flavours including
citrus, peach and mineral notes. It's best served chilled with pan seared salmon, veal Genovese
or fettuccine pesto.
Cabernet Montepulciano Merlot (Italy): Located in the heart of
Tuscany, the town of Montepulciano is built along a narrow limestone ridge 605 m above sea level.
The town, which is encircled by walls and fortifications designed by Antonio da Sangallo the
Elder in 1511, is the home of Cabernet Montepulciano Merlot, a medium-bodied wine which pairs
perfectly with grilled lamb chops, game and aged cheeses.
Bush Vine Grenache (Australia): Grenache noir is the world's
most widely planted grape used to make red wine. Bush Vine Grenache, produced in the Barossa
Valley in South Australia, is harvested from old vines that are able to achieve complex profiles
from years of sustained growth. This deep garnet wine pairs perfectly with steak-au-poivre,
char-grilled burgers and mild cheddar or gouda.
