MAIN Arrow to Art Art & Culture Arrow to Literature Literature Arrow to Authors Authors

Although critics predict that print may soon meet the same fate as carbon paper or typewriters, published authors remain the rock stars of the media world.

While anyone can see their words in print online nowadays, all you have to do is have a publishing house actually shell out an advance to put your thoughts or opinion to paper (in a cut-throat business that rejects far more than it publishes) and you know you've arrived.

The mass transit of online bloggers and tweeters may come and go, but being a published author understandably remains the solid gold cadillac standard of excellence.

As even kid-lit publishers know, parents aren't about to put their children to bed at night by reading to them from the cold blue light of a laptop. Neither does anyone else expect the adult imagination to take wing .... by curling up with a good computer.
