Stand Up To Cancer is a charity that raises money which is used to fund "translational cancer research."

Translational cancer research is a more complete form of scientific discovery, where scientists from different disciplines and institutions collaborate on research that is translated in to something useful to people suffering from cancer.

Stand Up To Cancer is unique in that it is actually a part of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, which is a charitable organization that funds and organizes hundreds of different charities on behalf of the entertainment industry.

Stand Up To Cancer uses its connections to the entertainment industry well. In the 2008 telethon, the one hour Stand Up To Cancer special was seen by viewers on ABC, NBC and CBS commercial free, and was also broadcast on several major Canadian networks. The televised event was a major success, and took in over one hundred million dollars to put towards cancer research. One hundred percent of the money donated to Stand Up To Cancer goes to research, and none of it goes to overhead costs.

In addition to raising money, the Stand Up To Cancer organization aims to educate the public on cancer and help people understand just how pervasive cancer really is. Organizers are not shy about reminding people that one out of every two men and one out of every three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, which really demonstrates that cancer is a part of everyone's life.

Stand Up To Cancer also runs a website, where people can donate online and access a wealth of information on cancer related topics. There are also videos and articles from prominent entertainers, and an online magazine, SU2C Mag.
