Jayhawks Head coach Bill Self and the Kansas University Jayhawks play Division
I basketball in the Big 12 Conference.
This
team has a coaching legacy. Their first coach was the inventor of basketball,
James Naismith.
Following him was Forrest
Clare "Phog" Allen, "The Father of Basketball Coaching,"
who coached the team for the next 39 years. Although not a coach, Wilt
Chamberlain hailed from the Kansas Jayhawks and became a world famous athlete.
The Jayhawks have made it to the final four 12 times but have only come away with
the NCAA championship twice, 1952 and 1988. KU
