Rick Pitino and the University of Louisville Cardinals play Division I basketball in the Big East Conference.

The Cardinals have made 34 NCAA appearances making it all the way to the Final Four eight times but claiming the title only twice. In 2008 they advanced to the Elite 8 as the #3 seed in the East, but were defeated by the tournament #1 overall seed, UNC.

Their biggest rivalry is with the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The Battle for the Bluegrass is what anyone from Kentucky calls basketball. Fueling the rivalry, UofL's head coach, Rick Pitino, is the former Wildcat's coach!

Fransisco Garcia, from The Bronx, was recruited to play professional basketball in 2005. He forfeited his senior year for his big shot at pro ball and currently plays for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. Another former Cardinals player that also started his NBA career with the Kings is Pervis "Never Nervous" Ellison.
