Before
the Big 12 Conference was created, the Aggies played in what was then known as
the Southwest Conference. They won the Southwest Conference Championships 11 times
between 1919 and 1986.
In the modern era, the
Aggies have been invited to the NCAA Championship Tournament ten times advancing
as far as the sweet sixteen three times. They have entered the NIT Championships
six times making it all the way to the quarterfinals in the 2004-2005 season.
Today, their
biggest rivals remain the Texas Longhorns, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Baylor
Bears and the Oklahoma Sooners.
Former
Aggie DeAndre Jordan played with the LA Clippers, Acie Law IV went on to the Atlanta
Hawks and Antoine Wright joined the Dallas Mavericks. Most recently coached by Mark Turgeon, his departure in 2011 resulted in Billy Kennedy taking over the head coaching position in 2012.
