Head coach Mark Turgeon and the Texas A&M University Aggies play Division I basketball in the Big 12 Conference.

Well known former coaches were Shelby Metcalf, who was the head coach of the A&M basketball program from 1963 until the 1989-1990 season, and Billy Gillispie who was the head men's basketball coach until April 2007.

The Texas A&M team has been competing since 1894. Before the Big 12 Conference was created, the Aggies played in what was then known as the Southwest Conference. They won the Southwest Conference Championships 11 times between 1919 and 1986.

The Aggies have been invited to the NCAA Championship Tournament ten times advancing as far as the sweet sixteen three times. They have entered the NIT Championships six times making it all the way to the quarterfinals in the 2004-2005 season.

The biggest rivalries are with the Texas Longhorns, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Baylor Bears and the Oklahoma Sooners.

Former Aggie DeAndre Jordan played with the LA Clippers, Acie Law IV went on to the Atlanta Hawks and Antoine Wright joined the Dallas Mavericks.
