Major players in NCAA Division I-A, the Purdue Boilermakers football team are eight-time winners of the Big Ten Conference and have appeared in a total of 15 bowl games, the last in 2007 when they defeated Central Michigan to win the Motor City Bowl 51-48.

With its home field at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana, the team had been led by popular head coach Joe Tiller who retired after the 2008 season. Leading the team since 2009 is former associate coach Danny Hope.

Known as a testing ground for NFL quarterbacks, Purdue has produced a number of Super Bowl stars including Bob Griese and Len Dawson, as well as New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees.

After a lackluster 2010 season, the Boilermakers have a lot of catching up to do in 2011. This year, they're up against Penn State, Michigan and Wisconsin in games that will test their mettle on the road followed by a home matchup with Ohio State on November 12.
