Usually trailing behind their highly successful UConn Huskie basketball counterparts in terms of fame and glory, the UConn football team jumped to the big leagues as an independent in 2000 and eventually joined the Big East Conference in 2004.

UConn football has won a total of 16 conference championships, and in 2007 enjoyed their best year yet finishing 9-3, while earning a spot against Wake Forest at the Meineke Car Care Bowl where they were ultimately defeated 24-10.

In 2009, UConn was victorious at the PapaJohns.com Bowl with a big win over the SC Gamecocks 20-7. Last year, UConn led with five consecutive victories - enough for a BCS bowl berth.

Since then, however, it has been a rocky start to 2011. The sudden departure of head coach Randy Edsall has been coupled with yet another departure of UConn's most decorated player from the 2010 season, Jordan Todman, who was drafted to the NFL.

New head coach Paul Pasqualoni still has deep field of talent to work with going into the 2011 season. But can he keep it together? Stay tuned.
