Your Daughters & Sons to Work Day
Taking
your children to work may be unthinkable for most of the year,
but on Bring Your Son Or Daughter To Work Day the doors are
open in most work places and the kids get to see what it is
that keeps Mom or Dad busy all day.
The national
date for the Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work program is
always on the fourth Thursday in April. The
2009 program will be on Thursday, April 23rd.
Why
bring your children to work with you on a school day?
Nadine O'Reilly, M.A., Certified school psychologist explains, With more
and more mothers working outside the home, we are finding that the amount of quality
time they have to spend with their children is less and less. Take Our Daughters
and Sons to Work Day is a vital initiative because it promotes parent-child
bonding on yet another level. By affording our children the opportunity to experience
our careers, we are providing them with an immediate educational experience, as
well as the possibility of fostering long-term goals and motivation... The
day originally was just for daughters. It was organized by the Ms. Foundation
for Women in 1993. Opening the doors to the world of work and to the endless possibilities
available outside the home seemed like a good idea. After
a few years, the benefits were so clear that boys were included in the mix. The
day was renamed Take Our Daughters And Son To Work Day in 2003. As
it is organized now, this day gives all kids from eight to eighteen, a chance
to experience the workplace first hand ... sort of a one day internship with mom
or dad. Learn
more about this modern mix of education and fun that is winning over doubters.
Even those who don't have children are becoming mentors to join in the experience
