What would Christmas be without the family gathered around the warm glow of a TV?

This year, watch for a select group of U.S. stations specializing in everybody's favorite Christmas gems - such as CBS for animated specials, TMC for movies, or ABC Family for the big mix of movies, specials and animated tales.

The 24-hour A Christmas Story marathon on TBS? Check! It's a Wonderful Life on NBC Christmas Eve? Check! It's nice to know that some things never change, especially around the holidays.

So what else is happening around TV land this Christmas?

As always, NBC will again herald the arrival of the holidays with a display of top musical talent at the 84th lighting of the world's most famous Christmas tree.

Stay tuned for the "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" 2016 telecast on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 with live performances from 7–9PM ET.

The following week, NBC is back -- with another live Broadway musical in what has become a beloved holiday tradition. Following in the footsteps of “The Sound of Music Live!, “Peter Pan Live!” and "The Wiz" watch for this year's live telecast of the Broadway hit "Hairspray Live" on NBC on Wednesday, December 7. 2016 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.

This years NBC Broadway production of "Hairspray" features an all-star cast including Harvey Fierstein, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, Martin Short, Derek Hough, Kristin Chenoweth, Dove Cameron, Garrett Clayton, Sean Hayes, Andrea Martin, Rosie O'Donnell, and introducing Maddie Baillio as the teenage misfit who becomes the star of the show.

In the further race for holiday ratings, the Hallmark Channel once again promises hours of programming devoted to Christmas movies and specials in 2016 with its "Countdown to Christmas". Of course, for more holiday viewing the whole family can look forward to ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas, beginning December 1.

Until then, keep it here as TV schedules are announced, and check back often for the latest updates as we fill in the blanks for a full schedule of U.S. television programming tagged especially for Christmas 2016.

Happy Holidays!
