Along with holly and mistletoe, another great Christmas tradition includes families gathered around the warm glow of a TV to watch much beloved Christmas movies and TV specials.

This year, watch for a select group of U.S. stations specializing in everybody's favorite Christmas gems - such as CBS for animated specials, TMC for movies, or Freeform (formerly known as ABC Family) for the big mix of movies, specials and animated tales.

It's a Wonderful Life on NBC Christmas Eve? We've got it covered. The 24-hour A Christmas Story marathon on TBS? Ditto. It's nice to know that some things never change, especially around the holidays.

But what else is happening around TV land this Christmas?

As always, NBC will herald the arrival of the holidays at the 86th lighting of the world's most famous Christmas tree. Stay tuned for the "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" 2018 telecast on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 with live performances by top musical talent from 7–9PM ET.

And speaking of beloved holiday traditions, watch two airings of the Christmas movie classic "It's a Wonderful Life" to air on NBC in mid-December with an encore airing on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2018 at 8PM ET. Meanwhile, the annual kickoff of the 24-hour "A Christmas Story" marathon on TBS begins at 8PM ET on Christmas Eve as well, with continuous showings through Christmas day.

In the further race for holiday ratings, the Hallmark Channel once again promises hours of programming devoted to Christmas movies and specials in 2018. And, for more holiday viewing the whole family can look forward to Freeform's "25 Days of Christmas", beginning December 1.

Until then, keep it here to check back for the latest updates as we fill in the blanks for a full schedule of U.S. television programming tagged especially for Christmas 2018.
