If gymnasts are really serious about bringing home the gold, then the Olympic tests can be counted on to really put them through their paces.

Whether the event involves swinging from rings, flying around the uneven bars, exhibiting artistic skills on the floor or balance beam - or any of the thrilling moves we've come to expect - this sport is always one of the most popular for summer spectators.

Team USA

The women's team is coming on strong. Having taken the motherlode of medals at the Olympic qualifiers at the 2007 Pan Am games in Brazil, top winners included all-around champ Shawn Johnson who added three gold medals and a silver to the team.

In addition, Team USA won six silver medals in individual Pan Am event finals.

The U.S. men's gymnastic team was the world's strongest and most consistent from 2001-2004, resulting in medal performances at the 2001 and 2003 World Championships and the 2004 Olympic Games.

Currently, the men’s program is rebuilding after USA’s crushing 13th-place finish at the 2006 World Championships. However, hopes dimmed in July when team leader Paul Hamm withdrew from the games due to a wrist injury just weeks before Olympics opening day.

However, the team remains more determined than ever to shine with medal contentions in the 2008 Olympic Games.
