new york city sealBesides the state, New York City also imposes personal income taxes on residents in five rates ranging from 2.9 to 3.8 depending on filing status and income earned.

New York City taxes must be filed together with New York State taxes using form IT-201 Resident Income Tax Return (long form) by April 15 each year. When that date falls on a weekend or holiday, filers get until the next business day to submit their state returns.

In addition, companies doing business in New York city must file yearly business and excise tax returns on a quarterly basis using forms NYC-3A, NYC-3L, or NYC-4S depending on filing status.
