MAIN Your Money Taxes US New York City Taxes
Besides the state, New York City also imposes personal income taxes on residents in five rates ranging from 2.9 to 3.8 depending on filing status and income earned.
New York City taxes must be filed together with New York State taxes using form IT-201 Resident Income Tax Return (long form) by April 15 each year. When that date falls on a weekend or holiday, filers get until the next business day to submit their state returns.
NOTE: In 2012, the traditional filing deadline of April 15 falls on a Sunday, and Emancipation Day - a holiday observed in the District of Columbia - falls on Monday. Therefore, the deadline this year for filing taxes is April 17, 2012 giving everyone two extra days to file their taxes.
In addition, companies doing business in New York city must file yearly business and excise tax returns on a quarterly basis using forms NYC-3A, NYC-3L, or NYC-4S depending on filing status.
