The traditional
CFA IAMS Cat Championship at New York's Madison Square Garden
transformed last year into a cat AND dog show - the "Meet
the Breeds" extravaganza located at the Javits Center in
2009 in New
York City.
In a new partnership
primarily hosted by the world's largest registry of pedigreed
cats, the Cat
Fanciers Association will put out the red carpet for
the world's top cats. Meanwhile, they are joined in 2009 by top
dogs from the American
Kennel Club in a two-day event of fun and festivities for
pet lovers of all stripes.
160 breeds
of dogs and 41 breeds of cats will vie for attention at the two-day
event on October 17 and 18, during which visitors can meet with
dozens of retailers, and participate in ongoing demonstrations.
In addition,
visitors can learn more about their chosen pet at educational
presentations such as grooming, obedience, dog/cat breed showcases,
plus booths where the public can come talk to trainers, groomers,
vets and other pet experts.
Part of this
year's celebration is the question "Are your a dog person
or a cat person?" including online
voting to help determine who's who among an ardent population
of animal lovers everywhere.
