alma awardsALMA - which stands for American Latino Media Arts (and also means "soul" in español) annually awards major recognition to stars of Hispanic heritage.

Popularly known as the "Latin American Oscars", the Alma Awards are regularly bestowed on mainstream stars in American movies, music, sports and television.

Past recipients have included such popular names as Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Christina Aguilera, Carlos Santa, boxer Oscar de La Hoya, and many more.

Sadly, the Alma Awards will not be airing in 2015 as organizers have announced a "reassessment" of the show following last year's successful run on MSNBC. This is not the first time the Almas have gone dark, having cancelled the show on various occasions to "station hop" from its original home on FOX in 1997. The Alamas have since moved to ABC and NBC before finally switching to MSNBC last year.

Meanwhile, stay tuned for updates as they are announced.
