Daniel Craig, the actor most famous in the U.S. for his role in Lara Croft:Tomb Raider alongside Angelina Jolie, offiically took over the role from Pierce Brosnan as the next James Bond in the remake of Casino Royale.

He will also star in the next episode in the franchise, "Quantum of Solace" co-starring with hotty Olga Kurylenko, cast as the new Bond girl.

Early Career

Born Daniel Wroughton Craig on March 2, 1968 the blue-eyed, blond-haired actor grew up in Liverpool before moving to London to study at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Craig made his film debut in The Power of One (1992), and has often appeared on British television in miniseries and TV movies including Our Friends in the North, Moll Flanders, The Ice House and Copenhagen.

British movie audiences know him best as the star of such films as Love & Rage, The Trench, Some Voices, and Hotel Splendide. He has also appeared in supporting roles in I Dreamed of Africa, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and with Tom Hanks in Road to Perdition.

Bond & Beyond

Throughout 2005, rumors of Daniel Craig appearing on a short list of actors chosen to star in the James Bond franchise continued unabated when, in October, the UK's Daily Mail broke the news that Daniel Craig had all but clinched the role.

Craig was soon jettisoned into international stardom as the new James Bond in Casino Royale, co-starring French hottie Eva Green in the role of vixen Vesper Lynd, along with Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen as the villainous Le Chiffre.

Beyond the Bond 007 franchise, Craig has also appeared in The Invasion, a remake of the horror classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers in which he co-stars with actress Nicole Kidman.

Craig next stars in his second Bond film, Quantum of Solace, slated for November 2008 release.
