TheTV game show sweepstakes Deal or No Deal is Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? for non-brainiacs.

It's not high drama, but sometimes the tension can rise to the point where millions of viewers can be heard to cry in unison...

"Take the deal! For heaven's sake... take the #$@%! deal!!"

Already a huge hit in Australia (before moving on to the UK and around the world), Deal or No Deal, starring host Howie Mandel, premiered in the U.S. a week before Christmas in 2005 and almost instantly bestowed the gift of a solid fan base upon NBC.

Since then, rabid viewer loyalty has helped to bring it back for a second season, with a 2-hour premier that kicked off the season on Monday 8PM on September 18, 2006.

For Deal or No Deal newbies, the object of the show is to put contestants in the hot seat of choosing among 26 sealed briefcases. Without knowing the amount in each briefcase, the contestant picks one - theirs to keep until its unsealed at game's end.

They must then eliminate the remaining 25 briefcases, each filled with varying amounts of cash from one penny to $1 million dollars. As the tension builds, the player is tempted by an unseen "Banker" (he's Peter Abbay, who won't reveal his face - not even on his official blog) to accept an offer of ready cash in exchange for their briefcase.

Host Howie then asks...."Deal or No Deal?"
