The smart and commanding 6-foot tall actress with the 140 IQ, and best known for her film role in Thelma & Louise, was born Virginia Elizabeth Davis on January 21, 1956 in Wareham, Massachusetts.

Davis later graduated from Boston University with a degree in drama in 1979, and went on to work as a fashion model.

Her big break came in 1982 from director Sydney Pollack - who chose her to play a soap opera actress beside Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie.

Since then, Davis' star has risen and fallen in such ill-fated TV series as Buffalo Bill (1983) and Sara (1985) which later gave way to glowing reviews and Oscar nominations for her roles in The Accidental Tourist (1988) and an eventual Best Actress Oscar nod for her role as a downtrodden housewife in Thelma and Louise (1991).

Davis also co-starred in 1986 with her then-husband, Jeff Goldblum, in the sci-fi remake of The Fly and in the sci-fi comedy, Earth Girls Are Easy in 1988. That same year she also starred alongside Alec Baldwin in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. She later married Renny Harlin who directed her as a swachbuckling female pirate in Cutthroat Island in 1995.

More notable film performances include a starring role as a women's big-league baseball catcher in A League of Their Own (1992) and in Stuart Little 2 in 2002.

In 2005, Geena Davis received glowing reviews as Mackenzie Allen in the television series Commander-in-Chief in her role as the President of the United States, who ascends from Vice President to the Oval Office after the President dies. However, ratings for the show dropped after several low-rated episodes when it was cancelled by ABC the following year.

Davis later won a bittersweet victory when she took home Best Actress in a TV Drama at the 2006 Golden Globe Awards.

Off screen, Davis is currently married to Dr. Reza Jarrahy with whom she has one daughter, Alizeh, and twins Kian William and Kaiis Steven.
