George Strait

Born George Harvey Strait on May 18, 1952 in Poteet, Texas the current "King" of western swing and honky tonk was raised in Pearsall, Texas and began playing with a rock band while just a teen.

Later enlisting in the military, he joined an Army sponsored band called Rambling Country. Following an honorable discharge, George began attending Southwest Texas State University in the mid-70's and during his college years became lead singer for the Ace in Hole Band which regularly played at local bars and honky tonks.

Several years later, he was discovered by MCA Records who signed him on as a solo act, with Ace in the Hole serving as his backup touring band. It wasn't long before Strait had his first Top Ten hit in "If You're Thinking You Want a Stranger (There's One Coming Home)" kicking off a string of hits throughout the 80's and a perennial winner at the Country Music Association Awards almost year after year.
