Cast photo of High School Musical High School Musical is a story of two high school students, Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), who are on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to popularity.

Troy is the captain of the basketball team and Gabriella Montez is a shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Troy's best friend Chad Danforth (Corbin Bleu) is a star on East High's basketball team and Gabriella's friend Taylor McKessie (Monique Coleman) is the leader of East High's science club.

Although Troy and Gabriella are different, there's one thing they have in common : they both can belt it out!

No one expects either of them to want to try out for their high school musical. Especially not Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) who just know they will get the parts (if no one else tries out...)

To everyone's surprise not only do they try out but they get cast as the lead parts! Troy and Gabriella's friends try to keep them apart so that they can stay focused on what's really important...to their friends. Eventually their friends realize that they are wrong to keep Troy and Gabriella apart and as hard as they worked to split them up, they work to get them back together.

In the end, not only do they perform their duet in the school musical but Troy plays in the big game and Gabriella gets to compete in the Decathalon.

Apparently, everyone did. The Emmy Award-winning television film was one of the most successful Disney Channel original movies produced. People can't seem to get enough of this modern day version of the smash hit Grease.

The sequel, High School Musical 2, aired in August of 2007 to become yet another mega-hit for Disney that followed the lives of everybody's favorite teen characters.

High School Musical 3 continues the story of Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) who are now high school seniors facing the real world as they graduate from East High School. The latest installment is set to be released on October 24, 2008.

Meanwhile, watch for a new reality show on network ABC featuring contestants vying for a shot at a Disney contracts on High School Musical Get in the Picture airing over the summer.
