Jonas
Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience
(Touchstone Pictures) A concert documentary featuring Nick
, Kevin
and Joe
Jonas . Rated G. Time 76 minutes. $15.00 per ticket
In Jonas Brother: The 3D Concert Experience, Kevin, Joe and Nick
Jonas the 80's retro-clad brothers perform in what
is supposed to be raw, untooled, excerpts from their 2008 ``Burnin'
Up'' tour, intermingled with behind-the-scenes footage of life
on the road.
The
audience is introduced to a new ballad, ``Love Is on Its Way,''.
Fans are also treated to guest performances by Demi
Lovato and Taylor
Swift. The 3D effects include the usual guitar pick flicking,
water spritzing, and microphone in your face. Nothing spectacular,
but be prepared to feel silly when you instinctually duck!
We
have to use the term documentary really loosely. I won't argue
semantics here, it's the Jonas
Brothers powered by the Disney magic machine. Enter a
theater filled to capacity, every seat has a screaming tween girl
anxiously waiting to see, in true to life 3D, her hearts one desire,
a Jonas Brother.
Fawn,
swoon, scream, cry, faint, that is the usual reaction to these
three young, promise ring wearing music makers.
It is estimated that they will head the box office sales numbers
in the opening weekend with a healthy 25 million. The strength
of the movie itself doesn't matter all that much. Disney proved
that with the Hannah
Montana 3D Concert Experience movie. But if you are one
of the lucky girls who finds herself in a theatre in which they
chose to make a live appearance, well nothing else quite matters.
As far as the Jonas Brothers go, they are nice kids. Their music,
most of which is penned by them, is catchy and evolving. And after
all they are handsome young musicians. Many a young girl has swooned
over less. However, for $15 a ticket even a starry-eyed tweenage
girl should expect a bit more. I know Moms do. If you have the
option I think waiting for the video seems more economically sound.
And at least you can leave the room when the screaming starts....
