Lil Jon

Born
Jonathan Smith in Atlanta, Georgia, Lil Jon began his career in
the early 90's under the wing of Jermaine
Dupri who was impressed by the young DJ who was working at
a local Atlanta club at the time.
Eventually
named executive V.P of A&R at So
So Def Records Lil Jon worked throughout the decade creating
remixes well as producing directly for specific artists such as
Xcape, Usher
and Whitney Houston.
By
the late '90s, Lil Jon had formed his own group, the East Side
Boyz. They issued their debut release in 1997, Get Crunk, Who
You Wit: Da Album, and effectively introduced the southern
term, crunk (crazy + drunk, or wild party music) to the
rest of the country.
Their
follow up album, Put Yo Hood Up, was released in 2001 spinning
off a club hit, Bia Bia, featuring Too Short, Chyna Whyte
and Ludacris.
However, bigger
things were in store the following year with their breakthrough
Kings of Crunk album featuring a single with the Ying
Yang Twins, Get Low, that eventually charted around
the world.
Most recently,
Lil Jon produced and performed on Usher's smash hit, Yeah!
winning a Source
Award for Producer of the Year as well as for best R&B/rap
collaboration. The song has also been nominated for Record of
the Year at the 2005
Grammy Awards.
Lil Jon's
most recent album, Crunk Juice, is currently climbing the
charts following a November 2004 release.
