Occasionally singing for his family from the Muniz family kitchen table in Spanish Harlem, Anthony's early influences were not salsa, but the pop bands Menudo and a local club band, The Latin Rascals. His first big professional break came with a collaboration with producer Little Louie Vega on the club hit Ride on the Rhythm in 1992. The following year, Anthony earned his first recording contract and a debut album, Otra Nota, featuring the hit single Vivir Lo Nuestro, a duet with pop and salsa singer, India.
Later on tour
throughout the salsa circuit, Anthony quickly emerged as one of
it's hottest stars. In 1995, his album Todo A Su Tiempo
garnered a Grammy nomination, followed by a Grammy award going
to his Contra La Corriente for Best Tropical Latin Performance
in 1999. That same year, his English-language album featured a
track, I Need to Know, that became a huge hit with U.S.
audiences. In addition
to a musical career, Anthony has occasionally appeared in major
Hollywood films including Martin Scorsese's Bringing Out The
Dead and in Man on Fire alongside Denzel Washington.
Marc Anthony made headlines in 2004 with his surprise marriage to longtime friend Jennifer Lopez, the event taking place just three days before the release of his first Latin pop CD, Amar Sin Mentiras, (To Love Without Lies.). Later on in the year, he was named Favorite Artist - Latin Music at the American Music Awards. Anthony and Lopez performed together for the first time as husband and wife at the 2005 Grammy Awards -- from which Anthony took home an award for Best Latin Pop Album for Amar Sin Mentiras. He led the list of nominees at the 2005 Latin Grammy Awards with nods for for Best Male Pop Vocal Album (Amar Sin Mentiras), Best Salsa Album (Valió La Pena), and Best Tropical Song ("Valió La Pena"). In 2007, husband-and-wife Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony appeared on the big screen starring together in El Cantante and launched a major nationwide tour on September 29. Following
the birth of twins, a boy and a girl named Max and Emme on February
22, 2008 that same year rumors began to fly that the couple's
relationship had become strained. Insiders say divorce proceedings
are likely to be filed by early 2009, although no official confirmation

Born
Marco Antonio Muniz in New York City on September 16, 1968, the
Latin hearthrob and current King of Salsa would eventually change
his name to avoid confusion with the famous Mexican singing legend
for whom he was named.
