The handsome Hollywood hunk - most recently in the news for his real life role as new dad - was born Matthew David McConaughey on November 4, 1969 in Uvalde, Texas as the youngest of three boys.

The family later moved to Longview, Texas where young Matthew was voted "Most Handsome" at Longview High School, graduating in 1988.

McConaughey launched his acting career three years later, appearing in a series of television commercials before landing his breakout role in Dazed and Confused in 1993.

Since then, he has also appeared in various dramatic roles in A Time to Kill, Amistad, Contact, U-571, Sahara, and We Are...Marshall, but has also successfully appeared as a leading man in light romantic comedies in such films as The Wedding Planner, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Failure to Launch.

Today, McConaughey draws equal tabloid attention to his personal life, and upholds his California "surfer dude" image by entertainiing paparazzi with frequent shirtless workouts at the beach, along with having dated a Who's Who of Hollywood actresses - including Sandra Bullock, Ashely Judd, and Penelope Cruz. McConaughey was also winner of People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2005.

Matthew McConaughey's most recent appearance on the big was co-starring with Kate Hudson in Fool’s Gold. The actor also taken on the role of new dad with the birth of a son, Levi, with girlfriend Camila Alves. The baby, the first for the couple, weighed in at 7 lbs. 4 oz on July 7, 2008.
