What happened to this year's Miss Teen USA pageant?

NBC did renew its contract with the Miss Teen USA organization in 2008 resulting in the first time in the pageant's history that it was not be televised. That still holds true for 2009.

But that doesn't mean the pageant wouldn't go on! Crowned this year at the 27th annual Miss Teen USA pageant was Miss Tennessee, Stormi Henley. Named as Miss Congeniality was Miss Hawaii, Ashley Moser, while named Miss Photogenic was Miss Iowa, Allyson Hovda.

The 2009 Miss Teen USA pageant was be held at Atlantis Paradise Island, in Nassau, Bahamas on July 31, 2009. For the first time since 1986 the Miss Teen USA pageant was held earlier than Miss Universe pageant. (Miss Universe 2009 will be held at same venue on August 23, 2009.)

Miss Teen USA 2008, Stevi Perry of Arkansas, was on hand to crown her successor at the event. Stevi made history last year when she became the only Miss Arkansas to take the crown since the pageant first began in 1983.

Making even more news in 2007 was third runner-up Miss South Carolina, Lauren Caitlin Upton, who badly mangled a response to a question posed to her during the competition, and now immortalized forever on a popular YouTube video.

Following the flub, Upton recovered from her 'blond moment' during a post-pageant interview with "Well personally, my friends and I, we know exactly where the United States is on our map. I don't know anyone else who doesn't. And if the statistics are correct, I believe there should be more emphasis on geography."

Throughout the two-hour event, contestants from across America compete in categories that included swimsuit, evening gown, and interview.

The big moment finally arrives as the top five finalists are picked from a jury of celebrity judges - who choose the next reigning Miss Teen USA before an estimated TV viewing audience of 250 million.
