The pop group now known as One Direction met on the UK hit X Factor in 2010 where they planned on winning as solo acts. At the urging of guest judge, Nicole Scherzinger, the five joined together as a single group .... and One Direction was born.

The teens, with Simon Cowell as their coach and mentor, didn't win top prize, but they did win the hearts of fans and walked away as the newest global music sensation. Today, One Direction represent a multi-miilion dollar business empire and have topped the charts with four albums Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013) and Four (2014) generating such hit singles as "What Makes You Beautiful", "Live While We're Young", "Story of My Life" and "Night Changes".

"My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world."
