MAIN Arrow to Art & Culture Art & ... Arrow to Pop CulturePop Culture Pamela Anderson

pamela andersonThe buxom former Baywatch star was born July 1, 1967 in Ladysmith, British Columbia, Canada.

Anderson was an attention-getter from the very beginning - when she made headlines as the the "Centennial Baby", the first baby born on Canada's Centennial Day.

More inadvertent attention came later, when she was spotted wearing a Labatt beer t-shirt at a football game and was asked to become spokesperson for the brand, eventually leading to a hot photo spread in Playboy Magazine.

Anderson's first TV appearance was on the sitcom Home Improvement playing Lisa, the Tool Time Girl. However, her rise to stardom came primarily from her 1992 performance - in a tight-fitting bathing suit - as CJ Parker on the surf soap, Baywatch, a role that would last until 1997.

The following year, Anderson continued to garner attention with an intimate video of her and husband, rocker Tommy Lee of the band Mötley Crue. When the video began circulating on the Internet, a lawsuit against the Internet service company was filed, but not before the video was either watched or downloaded by millions around the world.

In addition to her huge and loyal following as a Web celeb, Anderson's personal life has been closely watched by the tabloids ever since her tumultuous marriage to Tommy Lee, which took place only four days after they met. (Anderson has also since filed for divorce twice and reconciled twice before finally breaking her relationship with the rocker).

Along the way, Anderson has also broken off engagements both with male supermodel Marcus Schenkenberg, and rock musician Kid Rock. (With Kid Rock, the second engagement stuck, although their brief marriage in 2006 was quickly followed by divorce proceedings.)

She has also produced and provided the voice for Spike TV's animated series, Stripperella and made worldwide headlines when she caused a stir with Chinese censors for her nude appearance in a PETA ad (left) distributed internationally above the headline "Give fur the cold shoulder."

In 2005 Anderson starred in the FOX comedy series, Stacked and later became the subject of tabloid gossip once again when her televised pole dancing performance proved too hot for NBC.

The following year, the star posed nude again for her favorite charity, PETA, to help raise awareness of animal rights. On June 29 the publicity stunt received widespread attention when she appeared topless in a display window of designer Stella McCartney's London store.

Later, she announced news of an impending marriage to former fiancée Kid Rock, and the couple were finally wed in late July near St. Tropez in the south of France. It was the first marriage for Kid Rock, and the second for Anderson who has two sons with former husband, Tommy Lee.

The couple had been married all of 4 months when, following an early miscarriage, Anderson later announced divorce proceedings from her new husband in November 2006.

Almost a year later, Anderson married Rick Salomon who's main claim to fame has been as co-star in infamous Paris Hilton sex tape. The marriage was the the third for both Anderson and Salomon. It was annulled shortly thereafter.
