Panic at the Disco
Merely
a blip on the world music radar when they released their debut
album, "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out", this alternative
band would soon redefine Overnight Success when they won Video
of the Year at the 2006 MTV
Video Music Awards a short year later...
It was high
school classmates Spencer Smith (drums) and Ryan Ross (guitar)
who first formed the nucleus of the band, first begun in a garage
in a Las Vegas suburb in 2005.
They later
recruited friends Brendon Urie (vocals) and Brent Wilson (bass)
to complete the quartet and took the name Panic! at the Disco
from a line in the song "Panic"
by Name Taken.
With a little
viral marketing - and with demo tracks posted to purevolume.com
- Panic! at the Disco soon caught the attention of the Fueled
by Ramen label, which signed the fledgling band to its first
album, cut over five-week session in College Park, Maryland.
Released in
September 2005, "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" rose on
the Billboard charts to No. 13 and has since gone platinum selling
over a million copies.
Singles spun
off from the album, meanwhile, also went to the Top 40 playlist
- resulting in an appearance on MTV
TRL in early 2006 when they introduced their now-monster video,"I
Write Sins Not Tragedies."
By the summer
of 2006, the band was headlining important venues in both the
U.S. and U.K while continuing to release their most edgy, eerie
or witty cuts in video form, including "But It's Better If
You Do" and "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without
Taking Her Clothes Off."
With their
notable MTV VMA win for Video of the Year (for "I Write Sins
Not Tragedies") Panic! at the Disco concert dates continue
as one of the top selling nationwide.
As of October
2006, a world tour kicks off in Australia and New Zealand before
moving on to major venues in Europe.
