Sheryl
Crow
Born
Sheryl Suzanne Crow on February 11, 1962, in Kennett, Missouri,
Crow was grounded in music at an early age by her mother, a piano
teacher and former singer in a swing orchestra.
Following
in her mother's footsteps, Crow later majored in music at the
University of Missouri and following graduation briefly worked
as a music teacher. Embarking on a professional show business
career in 1986, Crow moved to Los Angeles, performing as backup
vocalist for many major pop stars which at the time included a
road tour with Michael Jackson.
Crow eventually
signed on with A&M Records in 1990 which released her debut
album, Tuesday Night Music Club featuring the one song
she did not write for the album, All I Wanna Do, a smash
hit for which Crow received Grammy
Awards in 1994 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best
New Artist and Record of the Year.
Her self-titled
second album, released two years later, again garnered the singer
a Grammy Award - this time for Best Rock Album - for a string
of such radio hits as If It Makes You Happy, Everyday is a
Winding Road, and A Change Would Do You Good.
A year later,
another Best Rock Album Grammy was awarded for her third album,
The Globe Sessions, featuring the singles Anything But
Down, The Difficult Kind and My Favorite Mistake, the
latter track rumored to be about her romance with guitarist and
singer, Eric
Clapton.

Following
the release of Sheryl Crow and Friends: Live From Central Park
in 1999 and a subsequent tour schedule, Crow released C'mon,
C'mon in 2002 resulting in the hit Soak Up the Sun
and the Best Female Rock Performance Grammy winner Steve McQueen.
In 2003 Crow
released The Very Best of Sheryl Crow, a greatest hits
collection featuring both her past hit singles and new tracks
including one of her most popular radio hits to date, The First
Cut is the Deepest.
In 2004, Crow
won an American
Music Award for Favorite Female Artist - Pop or Rock, and
frequently made the tabloids for her much-reported romance with
cycling great Lance
Armstrong.
The title
track of her album, Wildflowers, was dedicated to Armstrong
and was released in September 2005, the same month that the couple
announced the news of their engagement and expected marriage in
Spring of 2006.
However, the
rock star and the seven-time Tour de France champion called off
their marriage in a surprise announcment in February 2006. The
marriage would have been a first for Crow and the second for Armstrong,
who has three children with ex-wife Kristin.
Crow was back
in the headlines as she recovered from breast cancer following
surgery on February 22, but returned to the stage several months
later kicking off her North American tour in April.
