Survivor 12: Panama, Exile Island premier - Thursday February 2, 2006!

Many fans think that Guatemala was the ultimate challenge, but the producers of the series have thought up some new horrors for the cast of Survivor 12.

For the new season, the action takes the group back to the lush greenery of Panama. While this is actually the third time that a Survivor season is set in Panama, this time there is a new twist. Each week a castaway will be banished from the tribe for days alone on a tiny Exile Island. Off the shore, this desolate green rock tests the physical skills and mental stamina of each contender in a way never before experienced in the series. New strategies will have to be devised.

The number of castaways for the Panama - Exile Island adventure will be dropped back to the original 16 format that the series began with. The producers promise to devide the group of 16 into tribes in a way that will surprise you. Tribal bonds and special alliances between the survivors will be meaningless when each stranded castaway faces the dangers of Exile Island all alone. This is not a new tactic for the Survivor show. Remember that in Survivor: Palau, Janu Tornell was given a penalty for being the first to quit an immunity challenge. She was exiled to a night alone on an island. The difference is that this time, it seems that many nights alone will be something each of the survivors must face.

Will Exile Island hold another Immunity Idol twist like the one in season 11? At the preview of the new season -- at the close of the finale of Survivor: Guatamala, host Jeff Probst hinted that Panama's Exile Island will feature a second twist all its own. He offered the tantalizing statement that, "Something hidden within its rocky shores may be the key to $1,000,000 and the title of Sole Survivor."

Filming began on Survivor 12: Panama, Exile Island near the end of October and was finished sometime in the early days of December 2005. Rumors from Panama pinpoint the location as Island of Contadora in the Pearl Islands.
