The high fashion world is a superficial one where image is everything.

Trends and styles come and go, and the only thins, I mean things, that remain the same are the beauties who wear them.

So the question remains: Is there a place for Betty Suarez, an ordinary girl from Queens, in this ever changing fickle place of the stylish back-stabbing high falutin'?

Betty, (America Ferrera) is Daniel's, (Eric Mabius) assistant. His father, Bradford Meade (Alan Dale,) has just given control of his magazine, Mode, to Daniel.

Bradford chose Betty as Daniel's new assistant because he thinks Daniel won't sleep with her. At first, Daniel is not convinced she is the right person for the job, but inevitably her sweet spirit, intelligence, and hard work win him over. She doesn't know much about the fashion world but, then again, neither does Daniel.

Together they make one heck of a team against anyone who says they won't make it. Especially with the help of warm-hearted Christina, (Ashley Jensen) who works as the in-house seamstress and seems to know who's who, and everything about everybody.

Meanwhile, Wilhelmina Slater, (Vanessa Williams) is outraged that she isn't top fashion diva at the magazine. So she, along with slimy assistant Marc (Michael Urie), and scheming receptionist Amanda (Becki Newton), are out to sabotage Daniel and Betty any chance they get.

During the day Betty lives the high life. But Betty's home life is a far cry from glamorous.

Her dad Ignacio, (Tony Plana,) and her sister, Hilda (Ana Ortiz,) think she's just setting herself up for a fall. Her nephew, Justin (Mark Indelicato,) encourages her to follow her heart and dream big. Betty was dumped by her even-nerdier-than-her boyfriend, Walter (Kevin Sussman,) and no matter what she does or says to keep him away, he keeps turning up.

Based on "Yo Soy Betty La Fea," the groundbreaking Colombian telenovela that became an international phenomenon, Ugly Betty airs on ABC Television. Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Salma Hayek is executive producer, along with Silvio Horta ("Urban Legends"), Ben Silverman, ("The Office"), Jose Tamez ("The Maldonado Miracle"), James Hayman ("Joan of Arcadia") and Marco Pennette ("Caroline in the City").

Ugly Betty has won two Golden Globe Awards, a Peabody Award, and a SAG Award since it premiered on September 28, 2006. After a successful first season, season 2 premiered on Thursday, September 27 at 8 p.m.
