In direct competition with the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360, the latest upgrade to the PlayStation 2 features Blu-ray Disc storage media, and supports CD and DVD movies in high definition.

Despite its being a media rich powerhouse, PlayStation 3 has trailed its other two rivals in sales since its release in November, 2006. The near equally-powerful Xbox 360 is cheaper in price while the dynamic interface offered by Nintendo Wii (at a much, much lower price) are the reasons most often cited for PS3's third place market share.

Since its launch, PlayStation 3 has reduced the cost of its two models, originally priced at $599 and $499 by $100, and looks to reduce their prices again to increase market share in 2008 and 2009.
