Cricket World Cup 2011The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup marked the 10th Cricket World Cup since it was first hosted by the UK in 1975.

Led by some of the world's most rabid cricket fans, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were the three countries proudly assuming Cricket World Cup hosting duties in 2011.

South Asian cricket last hosted a World Cup in 1996 when India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka shared the games. In an historic Cricket World Cup final that year Sri Lanka enjoyed a tumultuous win over popular favorite Australia.

2011 Cricket World Cup Venues & Tickets

In 2011, the World Cup kicked off in February in Bangladesh followed by dozens of matches played by 14 nations divided into 2 groups of 7 teams.


India wins 2011 Cricket World Cup

 

India hosted 29 matches across eight venues including the final on April 2 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka hosted 12 games in three venues, including one semi-final. Bangladesh staged eight games as well as the opening ceremony on February 19, 2011.

2011 Cricket World Cup TV

Rights to television coverage was awarded to ESPN Star Sports which distributed live feeds, taped airings and recaps to international public and cable stations worldwide.

In the UK and Ireland, Sky Sports carried live game coverage. BBC 1 also offered Cricket World Cup feature color commentary and special video highlights. The Nine Network on FOX provided extensive coverage in Australia.

Eurosport2 televised the games to the rest of Europe (excluding the UK and Ireland) while North American fans tuned into DirecTV in the US and the Asian Television Network (ATN) in Canada.
