Cricket World Cup 2011

The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup marks the the tenth Cricket World Cup since it was first hosted by the UK in 1975.

Some of the world's most rabid cricket fans — India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh — are the three countries proudly assuming Cricket World Cup hosting duties in 2011.

South Asian cricket last hosted a World Cup in 1996 when India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka shared the games. In an historic Cricket World Cup final that year Sri Lanka enjoyed a tumultuous win over popular favorite Australia.

In 2011, the World Cup kicks off in February in Bangladesh followed by dozens of matches played by 14 nations divided into 2 groups of 7 teams.

India will host 29 matches across eight venues including the final in March at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Sri Lanka will host 12 games in three venues, including one semi-final while Bangladesh will stage eight games as well as the opening ceremony on February 19, 2011.

Tickets for the 2011 Cricket World Cup are expected to go on sale in 2010.

Rights to TV coverage are also being ironed out among international public and cable stations worldwide. Its expected that Sony (SET MAX) will most likely win rights to air the games throughout India, while in Australia FOX is viewed as the most likely to succeed in securing live coverage of the 2011 Cricket World Cup. In the UK, BBC 1 traditionally offers Cricket World Cup feature color commentary and special video highlights.

Stay tuned for more updates as they are officially announced.
