Ski Resorts & Snow Reports
While
surrounded by more well-known skiing areas in surrounding Vermont
and Massachusetts, the state of Connecticut boasts a handful of
major ski resorts throughout the season for avid skiers and snowboarders.
Centrally
located near the New York State border in northern Connecticut,
Mohawk Mountain is also convenient to the southern Massachusetts
Berkshires. Open yearly early December to spring, Mohawk features
24 trails for skiing and snowboarding, five chairlifts, and a
"wonder carpet" for kids and beginners.
Further
south, the Woodbury Ski Area boasts the earliest start for Connecticut
skiers and snowboarders with a traditional season beginning in
early November and lasting until late spring. Woodbury has two
mountains offering a tubing park, skiing, and snowboarding trails.
Heading
west, Hartford winter enthusiasts have a choice of two major resorts,
with Mount Southington featuring a Drop Zone terrain park that
has become a particular favorite of snowboarders, More winter
fun awaits at Ski Sundown - only a half hour's drive from downtown
Hartford - offering 15 ski trails (14 of which are illuminated
for night runs) and 2 terrain parks.
