winter is a beacon for downhill action at several ski resorts
nestled within the state's awesome Appalachian mountains.
Its largest
ski area is Snowshoe Mountain in Pocahontas County,
featuring a total of 56 slopes on two mountains reachable on one
lift ticket. Besides skiing trails (also open to snowboarding),
this major resort also offers cross country trails and snowmobile
runs for all-around winter fun.

the Canaan Valley Resort and the Timberline resort, each offering
a variety of downhill slopes for every level of ability, as well
as breathtaking beauty set amid the 15,000-acre Canaan Valley
National Wildlife Refuge
Further south,
Winterplace is the place to be for family-friendly winter fun
with 28 downhill trails and snowboarding areas on 90 acres of
skiable terrain. In addition, Winterplace also features a the
longest snow tubing park in the state featuring 16 lanes and two
super carpet lifts.
