certainly was following the hit movie, Bend
It Like Beckham, released that year in which a young female
soccer player follows her dream to be a soccer great.
In 2004, Beckham signed a 4-year contract with Real Madrid of Spain worth up to $41 million in salary and endorsements. He lived up to all the hoopla, improving upon his Man United stats by scoring five times in his first 16 matches, and ingratiating himself with the Real Madrid fans.
With his performance less than stellar, however, and following England's defeat at the 2006 World Cup Beckham stepped down as captain.

Beckham Moves to America
Beckham finally made the much-reported announcement of a new five-year contract with the LA
Galaxy team on January 11, 2006. The total $250 million deal translated to $1 million a week - the biggest in the world of sport.
The move to America was widely seen as a boon helping put Major League Soccer on the world map, and in Julythe then-32-year-old
midfielder was officially introduced as a Galaxy star.

Beckham has also been loaned out to England and the AC Milan teams. He was also set to represent England in the 2010
World Cup when he was seriously injured playing for AC Milan. The result was missing out on his bid to become the first England player to feature in four successive
World Cup finals. However, hHis heralded return to Galaxy that same year brought the team to victory and the MLS cup in 2011.
With his career coming to a close, David Beckham made a brief jump to the Paris-St. Germain team in 2012 where finished out one of the most storied sports careers in history before a standing ovation.
Today, Beckham's power as a world figure remains undiminished as he continues to win endorsement deals from major brands worldwide, most notably in revealing underwear ads for Calvin Klein, Armani and H&M.
