The 2010 playoffs and championship games pit major teams battling for top spots in the ultimate quest for the Holy Grail of Hockey, the Stanley Cup.

This year's NHL schedule runs from October 1, 2009 through April 11, 2010, with the Stanley Cup Playoffs beginning on April 14.

The Stanley Cup finals, which began in May, was broadcast in Canada on CBC and TSN and in the U.S. on cable channel Versus.

As the contest really began to heat up, US network television NBC was included in the television broadcast mix right up to the final.

It was a battle royal between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers. Yet leading 3-2 against the Flyers in Game 6, it was the Blackhawks who finally celebrated their first Stanley Cup in 49 years, ending the NHL's longest championship drought ever.

With 40 goals scored in the first five games, the 2010 Stanley Cup Final was the highest-scoring championship round since 1981, when the victorious New York Islanders and the Minnesota North Stars scored 42 goals in five games.
