MAIN Recreation Sports Tennis 2009 Wimbledon

We watched as usual suspects Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova and Venus & Serena Williams appear on court for the 132nd annual Wimbledon championships in London in 2009.

The big early surprise this year? Defending champ Rafael Nadal, has pulled out of the UK championship after suffering a knee injury. This, following his first loss over to Roger Federer at Roland Garros.

Play began on Monday June 22, leading up to the quarter and semi-final showdowns... and ending with the ultimate battle at the Wimbledon men's final on Sunday July 5, 2009. And it was epic!

The final saw Roger Federer taking on American champ Andy Roddick in a prolonged battle for dominance in which the Swiss tennis superstar finally triumphed - winning an historic 15 grand slam titles.

In the U.K., all the best Wimbledon coverage was seen on BBC, with video clips available at BBC Tennis. In Canada, Wimbledon fans can tune into TSN.

In the U.S., complete TV coverage was provided by NBC Sports and on cable channel ESPN.
