X Games
Dude!
As
temperatures dropped in Aspen, the excitement heated up - when
the Winter X Games returned to Aspen/Snowmass Colorado
for the seventh consecutive year in 2008 from Thursday, January
24 through Sunday, January 27, 2008.
One of the
most x-treme winter sports events in the world, the winter games
attract an international array of more than 200 gravity-defying
athletes. Prize money, medals and worldwide fame are up for grabs
as each of them compete in such events as Moto X, skiing, snowboard
and snocross.
In addition
to the extreme sporting scene, party revelers also enjoyed live
nightly concerts
as part of the annual Winter X Games hoopla featuring live performances
by hip hop artist Common and Satellite Party at Wagner Park in
downtown Aspen.
Live coverage
on ESPN and ABC Television included primetime night games on the
schedule - amounting to almost 20 hours of air time devoted to
the Winter X Games in 2008.
2008 Winter
X Games Recap
Although highly
recognized athletes like Shaun
White and the Tanner
Hall made their mark on the Winter X Games 12, the headlines
were once again dominated by the women - like snowboarder Lindsey
Jacobellis - who came on strong against Swiss rider Tanja
Frieden to win her fourth X gold by .73 seconds.
Aspen superstar
Gretchen Bleiler also continued to turn heads with gravity-defying
tricks to ultimately take the women's superpipe competition, and
veteran Jamie Anderson didn't disappoint as she emerged in fine
form with a come-from-behind victory in the womens snowboard
slopestyle.
