Get
ready for a 24-hour worldwide summer extravaganza on July 7, 2007.
That's
when Save
Our Selves : The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis hopes to
trigger a broader movement to address what former Vice President
Al Gore calls a "planetary emergency."
The
catalyst behind Live Earth is an Oscar
winner for "An Inconvenient Truth", a film that spells
out the dire consequences of global
warming.
In
a statement announcing the event, Gore said "The climate
crisis will only be stopped by an unprecedented and sustained
global movement. We hope to jump-start that movement right here,
right now, and take it to a new level on July 7, 2007."
To
bring Live Earth to the worldwide stage on seven continents, Gore
is working shoulder-to-shoulder with Kevin Wall, who produced
the Live 8 concert in 2005, as well as stars from the entertainment
world, including producer-rapper Pharrell Williams and actress
Cameron
Diaz.
As
part of the effort, the team is bringing together more than 100
of the world's top musical performers, in much the way Bob Geldof
did for Live Aid and Willie Nelson did for Farm Aid.
