Get everyone together and be prepared to laugh!
Apples
to Apples is a fast and easy game to play for the whole family.
Anywhere from four to ten players can play and the more the merrier!
Each
game is usually over in about half an hour. The suggested age
range is 7-10 but younger or older can play. There is reading
required, but the little ones can be read to and this just provides
another way for them to learn how to read. It is a great way to
find out what some words mean to them.
There
are different versions of Apples to Apples that you can choose
from. The people and places in the other versions are suited to
certain eras, so keep that in mind when looking for the right
one for your group.
For
a totally different spin on this game: let each person turn their
cards into a story. The one rule: No one gets to interrupt and
change it. This story completely belongs to the one who holds
the cards. This is a fantastic way to enhance children's creativity
and imagination. (Probably not a good bedtime ritual, since everyone
will be laughing for a while.)
Object
of the game: Collect four green apple cards and be crowned
the king of the orchard.
How to
play the game: All players are dealt five red apple cards.
The judge has a green apple card. Each player chooses a card with
a word on it that is the closest match to the word on the judge's
card. If the judge selects your card as the best match, you keep
the green apple card; if you win four you're king of the orchard.
With every
hand there is a new judge so everyone gets a turn to be the judge.
To add a twist, make the worst match the winner of the hand or
don't count the last card played when choosing a winner for the
hand. This gets players moving quickly and thinking outside the
box.
