Eights
Similar to Uno
(without all the action cards) Crazy Eights is a fairly easy game
for kids.
For
older children, this game offers a slight beginner's chance at
learning strategy or bluffing. For younger children, this game
is great for number, color, even shape recognition.
Object
of the game: Be the first player to discard all cards in your
hand and accrue the least amount of points by the end of the game.
How to
play the game: Each player is dealt eight cards. One card
is turned over to begin the discard pile. If it is an eight put
it back and draw another card. Play goes to the left of the dealer.
Each person has to match the card which was discarded the turn
before, either by number or by suit.
If you don't
have a match, you can still play any eight in the hand. In addition,
the eight in any suit is wild. If you don't have a match or an
eight you must draw from the pile until you get one that is playable.
This is where the strategy comes in for older kids, since they
can draw from the pile whether they have a match or not ....just
to throw the other players off!
Why parents love this game:
- All ages
can play
- Encourages
color, number, and even shape recognition not to mention counting
skills
- Teaches
children how to strategize in a simple way
