Skylanders Giants

Skylanders Giants ~ Activision, MSRP $59.99 - $74.99USD, ages E10+. Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure changed the way children could play videos game. Its innovation was the introduction of action figures that when placed on the “Portal of Power” would come to life in the video game.

All the achievements the player made with that particular character would be saved in the action figure itself. So if a child went to her or his friend’s house they could take out their own characters and join the game at anytime with exactly the same skill level that they have on their home system.

The action figures are compatible for use across the different versions, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3. Players could use a friend’s Portal of Power for co-op play and player-versus-player arena battles. Children also had the freedom to change characters whenever they wanted. Over 30 different characters (each sold separately), including Spyro the purple dragon, are available. Now all hail the Skylanders Giants, which introduces a new story, new characters, and a host of upgrades and improvements. On this new quest, the Giants join the original characters to battle to defeat the evil KAOS.

Introducing, to start, four giant characters that are much larger than the others, naturally. These characters are not only larger-than-life, but they have special giant skills. A new set of original size characters will be released as series 2. Then 8 of the series 1 characters will be gone for good.

Ah yes, and some of the new guys will actually light up when placed on the Portal of Power -- all very cool and adding to the individual collectability of the figures. Original Series 1 figures will work in Giants, and almost all the powers will remain. The Crew absolutely loved the action figure aspect of the video game. They played with the characters when the game was shut off as well.  Older kids said the game was kind of simple as far as story line and skill sets required, but the collectable action figures and the fact that you could switch the guys around whenever you wanted were really very cool attributes of this game. All in all it was a “Giant” hit with the Crew.
