By state fair
standards, the Greater Gulf State Fair, which takes place every
year in Mobile, Alabama is a relatively new fair.
While most state fairs date back a century or more, the first
Alabama fair was organized in the 1950's.
But the Greater Gulf State Fair's relatively young age certainly
does not detract from the experience of "fun, food and family"
that the fair provides every year.
Like any good state fair, one of the main focuses is on animals
and livestock. The Greater Gulf State Fair features livestock
shows, agriculture and livestock competitions, including animal
performances in rodeos and other similar events.
One of the other great attractions about the Greater Gulf State
Fair is its emphasis on regional culture food, for instance!
It truly is
a highlight of the surrounding region and the Greater Gulf State
Fair does not disappoint. Fair goers will be treated to jambalaya,
po boys, boudin, and shrimp bayou, as well as classic state
fair foods like chili dogs, BBQ, funnel cakes and corn on the
cob.
The Greater Gulf State Fair also tries to put the spotlight on
the talent of local entertainers. While there are a few national
acts, the vast majority of the musical entertainment is from the
surrounding area.
Of course there are also plenty of other attractions available
including the thrills and chills of amusement park rides in the
Midway, and a full offering of entertainment for children as well,
making it an event for kids of all ages.
