Other notable annual events that continue to draw the crowds happens at Churchill Downs in Louisville each May for the Kentucky Derby horse race that kicks off the yearly run for the Triple Crown. In August, also don't miss a trip to the annual Kentucky State Fair in Louisville.

Year round, more major tourism spots include the Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, and the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. For baseball fans, there is the Louisville Slugger Museum, and for nature lovers the awesome 300-mile long Mammoth Cave in central Kentucky. Other nature-made wonders await in the southeastern part of the state at "Little Niagara" or Cumberland Falls.

In the southwesterly part of the state -- sprawling across to Tennessee -- lies Land Between the Lakes national recreational area, featuring the largest herd of buffalo east of the Mississippi!
