West Virginia
While
most states with warm climates plant the muscadine in their vineyards
and see it flourish, West Virginia's climate is too cool for the
native Southern grape.
However, varieties
of mostly French-American hybrids, as well as the Concord, Niagara
and Delaware grape have shown promise throughout West Virginia,
where wineries may also specialize in fruit and dessert wines.
Today, a dozen West Virginia wineries host tours and tastings through the southern and central highlands.
